Biography
Will McNeil
Will McNeil is a painter and architect working between the studio and the drafting table. Trained first in painting and later in architecture, his work moves freely between the two — using the discipline of drawing a building to inform the structure of a canvas, and the loose observation of paint to inform the feel of a room.
His paintings are concerned with light: the particular hour it falls at, the surface it lands on, and the quiet that follows once it has passed. Recent collections have taken up the Atlantic coastline, the domestic interior, and the unfinished architectural drawing as recurring subjects.
As an architect, he leads a small practice designing houses and studios that share the same values as the paintings — restraint, natural material, and a close attention to how daylight moves through a space over the course of a day.
He lives and works in the Midwest, splitting time between the studio and the office.
